Cherries and Wild Roses

It is June and the pie cherries and Mulberries are ripe and need to be harvested daily. Picked enough cherries to make a double batch of jelly and some Cherry Soda. Both are a hit. A friend also picked from the trees and got enough for a batch of something yummy. There are more ready to harvest if I can get out there before this next round of rain and thunderstorms comes in. The chickens and the rabbits have enjoyed the Mulberries. I tried to harvest them with limited success. The wind was not my friend in the catching of the berries in sheets hanging under the tree. I got enough berries to make a pie or a batch of jam or soda.

The spring wild roses are blooming and are so fragrant. I gathered quite a few to add to the very few Damask rose blooms I have. Looking forward to distilling them. It will not be enough for any essential oil, but they will make a wonderful hydrosol. Rose hydrosol is so skin softening and has a light fragrance that is very soothing.

The garden seeds are planted. It will be a wild sight if they all come up! There has been so much rain, getting the garden ready has been a challenge. The soil was finally ready to work, with heavy rain expected late in that same day. I prepared about a quarter of the main garden for planting green beans. My bestie came over and we got them in the ground. The rest of the seeds went in random patches in between my Wild Lettuce and volunteer Cosmos and Black Eyed Susan’s. I just couldn’t get the whole area ready for neat beds or rows, and couldn’t stand removing flowers! So it will be a wild and random kind of garden, but it is planted and I beat the rain.
